Q: on Compact Hemp and ACI sub
« on: 23 May 2007, 08:23 pm »
Hi Louis, I finally broke down and bought another sub. While the Compact Hemps beat the crap out of my Acoustic Energy AE-1s, I miss what my Vandersteen 2W did for piano, acoustic bass, and for live recordings (where bass reverb makes the hall sound more real). I'm trying the ACI Force XL. This sub offers more adjustments than did the 2W, so I'm hoping to get more seamless integration (especially with my AKG K1000 ear speakers).

So here's my Q...

Mike from ACI recommends that most ported speakers perform better when the port is stuffed with socks (insulation). I know that Hemps are not your run of the mill monitor, any thoughts on whether or not stuffing will be a good or bad thing? Also, any other suggestions for running Compacts with a sub???

Thanks, Kent

Hi Alwayswantmore,

Thanks and I too will be very interested in hearing about the sub.

The Compacthemps are very fast and you can run them with out stuffing the ports. I would try it as a sealed box and as well and hear which sounds better. In sealed box mode you will have to adjust the low pass on the sub at a higher frequency.

Thanks again,
Louis
