Klaus - Thank you, They are Fantastic!!!
« on: 25 May 2007, 03:58 pm »
Guys:

I got home late last night and have just connected my new Mono Extreme SEs.  First of all they are beautiful and as everyone else has posted they are not to be moved by the weak!  I am having to use the Preamp section of the Denon 3806 but my initial impressions, right out of the box, is that the base from my Monitor Audio 9Is is much crisper.  If the amps keep getting better and the Candela makes another significant improvement all I can say is Wow!!!

Thank you Klaus!

Trust me, give them a few hundred hours.  It gets even better.

my two amps needed about four days of being up and running 24/7 to get them to sound right even after they were broken in. It took my amps a solid 400 hours to reach that point! But let me tell you the wait is well worth it.
What you have will flatly smoke a pair of Krell mono blocs, and in my opinion run right with an Accuphase amp (and in many repects beat it). I might add here that I've had no less that five pairs of speaker cables hooked to my amps, and the ones I expected to be the best just didn't get it. The Audioquest Slates were bland and kinda dark. Monster cables (not their cheap ones) were about as good. The Synergistics were kinda bright with some glare, but very detailed. Gronenburgs are not bad, but the Cardas were my favorites. Gronenburg IC's seem to be the best so far, but have only had three or four others hooked up to them. I did find that MIT's and Synergistics worked well with the Candella preamp. The MIT was very smooth, but lacked the inner detail that the Synergistics have.

Which Groneberg Cables were you refering to Quatro reference or the TS premiums ?

that I have no idea. Mine are blue. Funny thing is that the actual cable material looks just like what Cardas uses, and even feels the same. I'll have to take a look at the eleven foot pair of ICs that Klaus built up for me to actually see just what they are (note I may still not know).
The one thing that Klaus does (leastwise in my case) was to offer me a choice in connectors. I went with WBT's without a second thought. But have been thinking about having him build me two pairs of 18" ICs using Eichman connectors in the near future. I might add here that in the past I've almost always had my best luck with the Synergistics cables when useing tubes (specially low output amps).

If you think they sound good now, you have a treat coming your way. You may also go through some low periods, they may sound terrible at times, but after a few weeks you will be a very happy camper. Mine have taken 5- 6 weeks and I can't think that anything would sound better than these amps, although I'm sure that I'm not done looking.
Enjoy,
Jeff

I agree with what's being said completely. The sound is only going to tighten up and get better. Sound stage and bandwidth improve also up to a month or two out. As everyone is saying, you're in for a treat, just keep them powered up and well fed.

I've been happy for quite a while using the cheaper grade of Analysis Plus cables for interconnects. They also take a little break in but seem to be a great match in impedance for me with an Anthem pre-amp processor. Smooth and involving but with enough snap in the way of dynamics to shock you on occasion.

Enjoy!
