Applying the idiotic Russian music licensing laws that allows websites to decide what royalties will be paid is certainly not ethical.

If you are into Live music, about the only reliable Legal site still running is www.archive.org

More than likely you've not heard of many of these bands, i haven't either....but most if not all the actual recordings are of good if not excellent quality.

Want some fun?    Download a few of the Robert Walter's 20th Congress or DJ Logic shows that have 5 stars.   those will be recorded with some of the best Schoeps mikes and Matrix software programs around...

Archive.org is for a lot more than music, its run by Universities.    When you get to the main page, click on the Link that sais ' Live Music Archive '

I think Limewire might be the new P2P site for other music.

While I have been going to this site for years, (over 2800 Dead shows), I would say that sonically, most shows are average, but there are gems. With the Dead you can only stream their soundboard shows but audience tapes are downloadable. Many "jam bands" are here, but with so many of them now having Cd's of almost all of their shows, the audience tapes are even less fullfilling. I have found new( unknown to me) bands and music just by spending time there. I'm not a snob sonically when we are talking about these kind of sources, I actually got a wireless music bridge and used laptop so I could stream directly to my stereo, but most concerts are very average in sound quality.

It's sad that the soundboard Dead shows are gone. It's even hard to find the lossless versions period but they are there if you look. My favorite show soundwise is the Yo Miles. Stunning quality. Lots of other cool stuff. I usually listen to the MP3 and if it sounds decent I will download a lossless version. A couple of the Charlie Hunters are nice as well as some of the Bela Flecks.
