Fear of stepping backward. . .

All:

Now that I've got my 2 channel system to the point where it's within a hair of the best system I've ever heard, and certainly in my top 4, I am changing houses.   :duh:

My new room is terrifying.  It's a 14 x 24 bonus room with 3 foot knee walls.  I'm so afraid of my two channel sound in that room.  I am taking advantage of Nathan's latest offer on the Eighth Nerve circle and getting custom made Adapts from him, since the ones I have now probably won't fit.  But I'm still not sure how two channel performance is going to be in there.

My plan is to have a theater up there, but I can't have two rooms, and I don't want to give up great two channel now that I have enjoyed it so much over the past couple of years.

Does anyone else here have a room like this?  How bad is it going to suck?

Hey!  Looks like you broke into my house and stole my furniture!  My room looks identical from what I can  see in the picture but I have another section of the room that creates an L shaped room.  I had to set my system up along the long wall (knee wall) so I am sitting very close to the speakers, speakers are spread wide, wider that the typical triangle.  I have tried several different speakers in this room some have worked some don't.  I have actually achieved very good sound in this room once I adjusted to the near field listening.  I have not played too much with room treatments yet.  I have recently located my system into this room, it was displaced by a surround system in the family room.  Good luck.

Don't buy the new house!

If your music is that important to you, why not look for a house that will serve your audio needs?

While my audio needs weren't first on the list of priorities, they were certainly part of the equation in terms of our current house.

George is right. Our house had to have a good audio space or we're not interested. Ok, I wasn't interested.

On the other side though I think a room like that could conceivably work well. I believe 99.99% of rooms need significant treatment to sound their best. The room is large enough and with proper treatment I think you'll be ok assuming you don't have real tall speakers.

It also takes time to dial a room in so just be patient.  At least those angled ceilings get rid of parallel surfaces and I would think would help. Just plan on spending money on room treatment, something everyone should do anyway.

Doesn't have to suck at all. Set up the speakers to fire the longer way down the room, with you sitting about 38 percent of the room length away from the front or rear wall. With a length of 24 feet that's about 9 feet from the front or rear. Front is my choice though.

Then you need to treat the reflection points on the angled side walls and ceiling, and the floor with carpet or at least throw rugs. Then bass trapping in as many corners as possible. Do that and you'll be in great shape.
