PMC FB1+ and sub or PMC OB 1's
« on: 11 May 2007, 04:56 am »
Hello ALL, again, and James Tanner

Would I have been smarter to order FB1+ and match them with a quality sub (2 way speakers plus sub) or go with the OB 1's.  So, technically, I guess I am asking is a 2 way speaker inherently more accurate/superior due to simpler design than a 3 way like the OB 1's.  Did I go down the wrong path.  The cost would have been comparable.  I am now thinking that the FB1+ matched with a PMC sub might have been a better idea.  Remember my last excursion into the hobby was 1987-and I had a lot to catch up on.  Any suggestions?

The OB1s are great speakers. My advice would be to just sit back, enjoy them and forget about the what-ifs. You'll drive yourself mad otherwise!

In my opinion stay with the OB1's = the Mid driver is a big plus and getting Subs to integrate in real rooms is not an easy task.

Sorry, rereading my response I didn't make it clear that I own OB1s, but have sampled FB1+ and I think keeping the OB1s is a good idea for sonic reasons as well as everything else. They sound much more open to me, and have more "body". Great speakers all in all.

Thanks for the info.  I guess part of it is I am waiting for my OB 1,s and I know I can get the FB1+'s quicker.  And I thought technically, that a 2 way speaker might by its nature be more accurate.  I was going to match the FB1+ with a PMC sub.  But I have already paid for the OB 1's, I am just impatient-and I might learn that they have to come from England.  And who knows maybe they are out of stock on the finish I ordered-also.
