SP 1.7 DSP Firmware version question.
« on: 21 Mar 2007, 07:47 am »
I just installed recently arrived firmware chips in my SP 1.7.   The old versions on the display were v39 and DSP 1.8    After installing the new chips the display reads V44f and DSP 1.02x     Is this 1.02x DSP version higher or lower than the 1.8?     Just a bit confused.   The new DSP chip says "BR2 120" on it.  The original said "TG4 180".

Thanks

Hi Aaron,

Yes that is the most up to date software for the SP1.7.

Hi Tony,

1.03 has extended crossover points and allows for faster DTS data rates
What version you have is dictated by the revision of the DSP board installed in your unit and other firmware installed.

Thanks for the response. I’m amazed that the VP of bryston has answered my question. That say’s a lot about a company and their products.  :thumb:

Hi Lossless,

1.03 and 1.04 are the same thing but for different revisions of the DSP board.

Hi Levi,

On the SP1.7 the Firmware number is inter-related to a specific model and revision of the DSP circuit board. So it is not simply a matter of installing the latest DSP Firmware in any specific DSP board.  Also the SP1.7 DSP boards are no longer available from the manufacturer.

If you wanted to improve on the Digital performance of the SP1.7 the better route is to upgrade to the SP2.
