Speaker set up and Anti-Vibration Feet
« on: 21 Apr 2007, 12:03 am »
Hello all I am sure this has been brough up a bunch of times but just wanted to hear your thoughts
I know my set up is not the best but its is what it is for now so lets just make the best of it
Looks wise I think it looks best and its the only way to get a Toe in on my set up -is to tave the speakers up against the edge of the Tv on a slight tow in.
I f I were to move the speakers to the edge of the stand (its just under 2" ) than I have no room for toe in
Next is what should be under my speakers ?Anti-Vibration Feet like sorbathne or audio points with Coupling Disc ?
If I ues something like a sorbathne it may be easie to move the speakers around

Any thoughts
Thanks

scoot them as far forward on the stand as possible, and slide your tv back.  let the 2 speaks have an unobstructed go at one another.  just slide them forward when you listen, then slide 'em back.

get a couple of sorbothane/neoprene mouse pads...

FOllow this link:

Herbie's sells great stuff at cheap prices. Send them an email about your system, and they'll let you know what you need.

What is the difrence in coupling Vs decoupling
Would something like

I would think that you'd want to decouple and not couple.  For my center channel, which sits on my RPTV, I have vibrapods:

I don't think you want to couple the speakers to the TV; that would mean vibrations would go into the TV.

Definitely de-couple, or Isolate, your speakers initially.

Everything in that picture is sharing vibrations with everything else.  not necessarily optimal for good sound.

Try a quick experiment.  Grab 2 hard cover books of the same thickness and lay those under your speakers.  Magazine might work too, or several layers of cardboard.  if you like what happens, continue with figuring out good Isolating products like Vibrapods, sorbothane or herbie's products.

pull the L & R speakers forward when doing any listening tests though, your tv screen could be messin' with the sound...  at the very least, place a cotton towel over the screen temporarily.

Personally, i'd scour some 2nd hand shops for cheap stool's that you could paint or stain to match the TV stand. Use these as speaker stands to each side of your TV.     getting speakers away from the rest of the gear would be a good thing...   Make sure the 1st time your wife hears them the lights are off, mitigate the WAF factor through better sound!

even with shielded speakers i'd be scared to put them so close to a TV.

I think so.  Not magnetically, of course, but I can't think that the vibrations would be good for all of those little mirrors.

The best place is to isolate or speakers separately, proper stands for your speakes would be the best idea afterwards you can experiment with sorbothane and other isolation option.  Having all of your components together really hurt your system.  Trust me I have the same issue.    If you can afford it purchase a flat screen and mounted on the wall get a nice decent rack (NO MDF CRAP) for your components and separate your speakers AWAY from your electronics.  Your speakers vibrate "ALOT" when playing music or watching movie also your electronics tend to vibrate as well.  Having everything separate is the BEST option but it can be a bit costly.  Your best temporary solution is to remove/isolate your speakers from your components.  The speaker and all of your stuff all bunch together create too much microphonics and unwanted vibrations.

Good luck! Let us know what you do and post some pictures to gauge your progress
