Muse 296...I3W3 I^2S input?

Is this just proprietary connection for their transports? Something you have ever worked with Steve? Just curious.

Some manufacturers of DAC's and Transports copy either the Pro version of I2S (Zero-one for instance) or the Audio Alchemy/Perpetual Technology version (AudioLogic for instance).  They are different.  I can currently do the Audio Alchemy/PT version of I2S.  I have put features into my new Pace-Car layout to change the pro version of I2S to my version if it is necessary.

Any idea if what is used on the Muse 296 is the Pro version or the AA/PT version? What would be involved in making the Muse DAC accept the output from a Off-Ramp I2S? A custom cable? Or more in depth mods that would cost a lot of $$ and maybe not be worth it? :)

No idea.  Is there a Muse website anymore?

Is the connector for the I2S a larger D-sub or a mini-Din?

This looks like the pro version.  It will need hardware to multiplex the two channels into one, like the new version of my Pace-Car.

SO would it be possible to use this DAC with your Off-ramp I^2S/Pace-Car as is? Or would you need to modify the DAC? Any guess on what mods you could do that could possibly improve the interface and sound quality? Probably you would need to see whats under the hood to know for sure....but if the cost would be reasonable, maybe I will pick up the DAC and when you have time, you could take a peek at it....just shooting out ideas here...thats all. :)

I was actually thinking about the transport, not the DAC.  I have made provisions to accept pro version of I2S from a transport and convert it to my version of I2S.  I dont actually have ANY solution that outputs pro I2S.  This would be a brand-new Pace-Car design with 2 serial data outputs.  I would pass on the DAC.  I have not been impressed with Muse gear anyway.....
