OmegaStar 170EX or 240EX Opinions on which to buy?
« on: 19 Apr 2007, 03:41 am »
Got a Dynaco ST-120 and a ST-150 with the meters. Have been trying to decide on which amp to send Frank to be transformed into a EX. At Franks web site he says that the 170EX is probably his best solid state amp. Would love to have the Dyna 150 done because of the meters.  Just like some feedback on what you guys think would be best. Thanks

What will you be driving with your amp? I would say more is better but I drive large full range speakers. It really depends on what you need and you do seem to like those meters!

Hi:

I suggest upgrading the Dyna 150.  Both share the same exact circuit, but the transformer in the Dyna is bigger than the transformer we use in the OmegaStar 170EX, so the output power is greater.  Note that when upgrading the Dyna systems we use the original Dyna 150 transformer, and replace the Dyna 120 transformer.

The cost is the same for either upgrade, so if you have a Dyna 150 it's a better value to upgrade it to the OmegaStar 240EX.

Thanks!

I have a metered Dyna 150 upgraded by Frank with his Omegastar circuits, and it is a great amp.
You can't go wrong with the 240 Ex, it is a very musical,  powerful, stable amp.

You'll be very happy with it, at least until you hear the ULTRA 550.

That's what happened with me, now I am happy with both!
