I got one from Brad at Revelation Audio. I'm wondering if any of you have tried it, can compared it to the stock cord? I will be using it on my VAC-1 > VDA-2 combo.

Check it out: http://www.revelationaudiolabs.com/cables-power/index.htm#ParablePower

Thanks guys!

tvad/tdangelo,

I certainly don't know the nature of your disagreement with Brad, but I've known the guy for over 3 years and he's always been a total gentleman.

Whatever your beef with him - I am 99.9% certain there is another relevant side to the story from his perspective.

I think I've bought 5 or more items from him the past 3 years and each transaction has been as good as the first one. His products are good and his service has been excellent.

Dusty/CIA - would you like this topic moved from your circle?  It really is deteriorating into a RAL grudge match now...it probably shouldn't be in your circle now.

Thx, John

CIAudio doesn't have any association with Brad/RAL, so it probably fits in better somewhere else.

Thanks,
Dusty

I am doing a comparison right now of the revelations umbilical and the stock umbilical between the CIA dac and its power supply.

First nights impression doing the A/B thing

Revelation audio umbilical: Pros  :  Great detail and air, very 3 dimensional, soundstage gets deeper for sure
Cons : Tone is a little colder and can stress  some sibilance

Channel Island umbilical    Pros:  Great tone, very natural sounding, acoustic guitars sound great and real
Cons:  More two dimensional than the other cable , less air, but still lots of detail

Conclusion:  I am  confused, I love the air and 3 dimensionality of the revelation silver cord , but the slight coldness and slight shrillness turn me off.

Can we have a revelation silver coated copper?

Dude, let it burn in a week or 2.  The RAL umbilicals really turn CI products on in a very good way.
It smoooooths out after a burn-in period.

until now i had no clue there was a beef between the 2, sorry Dusty!

that foot long umbilical has kept the VPP-1/VAC-1 in my home for a long time & will continue to do so.

No joke, if anyone is over & wants to hear what good cords do, I yank the RAL out and hand it to the person & insert the stock one.   the sound completely collapses, its so funny.

amazing what 1 foot of cable can do...

Just check out some of the The Chair Guy's comments on the RAL stuff.  search the archives...  The Mapletree preamp folks use the umbilical to good effect too...

this pc, like any other cable, will have a period of burn-in.

I had no clue the RAL was silver until about 6 months after owning it.  i was touting it & someone said 'i don't like silver', so I replied 'neither do I, won't have it in my system' then they replied 'dude, you have silver'.   guess i should read brochures!

It was at that point i knew RAL had something special.  to do silver that don't sound like silver takes an effort.  TCG metnioned that the shielding on the RAL is beneficial too....

the positive change that the cd's i make from LP's undertook with the addition of the RAL umbilical is very noticeable.  lots more distortion & muddiness with the stock umbilical.

I think i've asked this before here but will again, "Dusty, do you recomend any other cable makers for the umbilicals???"

Brad burns all his cables for 24hrs on a cable cooker....but they don't sound whole until 100+ hours (I think he most often recommends 150 hours) I've found.  He can cook them longer, but audiophools are usually to anxious to hear them and he likes to ship the next day whenever possible.

That can take a LONG time if it's an umbilical for a phono stage...somewhat long with a digi tandem (if you only get to listen 4 hours per day, it won't be fully fleshed out until a month goes by  :o)

I've always thought it was the dialetric breaking 'in' as it interacts cables, and not the wire...but as Brad seals each length in a tube of teflon and perhaps only 5% of the wire is touching the dialectric (as air or a vacuum is the best dialectric) so there is very, very little interaction.

So, I'm at a bit of a loss as to why break-in matters with RAL cables, but they do.

topround,

You got the silver vs. copper equation about right - that's what I hear.

Silver is less forgiving of system faults (per Brad and others).  Look elsewhere in your system for sibilance if you are finding it with the silver RAL cable.

I did, and I found it was the otherwise very excellent BPT BP-2 power conditioner I had.  Once I removed from the system, the coldness/sibilance/shrillness largely went away.

It may well be the cord, and how you hear it's properties, but it's possibly other parts of your system.
