I had these together for a short period and Tvad is correct on the gain sensitivity. I also found them to be a bit on the analytical side together. Caveat; I used the Modwright totally stock and attempted no tube rolling or other tweaks, and the Moscode was only a few eeeks in my system at that point. I ended up with another pre, but in no way want to express anything other than total respect for Dan and his products, just didn't have synergy in my system at that point and I wanted to stay with the Moscode...YMMV of course...
My experience is somewhat different, and ended up sending the 401HR back (not the Modwright). I had the 401HR in my system for the full 33 days, and with my SWL 9.0 SE it was not musical enough for me, no distinguishing characteristics...just not toe-tapping and warm-but-not cozy; and the bass lost some tautness it had with my more analytical Modwright/Krell combo. I later put a Bent TAP in the system, but by then the Moscode was sent back. I think a TAP/Moscode combo would be killer. Nothing against any of the products..it's all about synergy. Now that I have a McCormack DNA-500 I am happy with my system, but would love to hear a TAP/Moscode marriage.
I would try pairing the Modwright and the CI Audio D-200's.
What about a good passive preamp and the Moscode?
Let's try the Lamm in there and see if we can borrow a big SS momma.
