. . .take the diapason adamantes lll, for example.  the midwoofer is not crossed over at all, having a natural frequency roll-off which blends w/the tweeter, crossed at 4.6khz.  91db efficient, plenty of power handling capability.  and, the x-over is not in the critical midrange...

i know there are other speakers that take this approach...

doug s.
Triangle used this approach with the old Titus XS and maybe others.

I'll bet The Heads sound really good on that speaker too.  ;)

Thanks for bringing the Diapasons last week, even if we didn't get to hear them with ideal material.  The lil' ProAcs stole the show on that day though, and with an inductor on the woofer. . .I can't find the spec for the roll-off frequency.  Must be a secret.

I own a pair of OLD Reference 3a Master Contols. I traded a pair of NEW JM Lab Electra 926's a year ago. I have owned or heard just about every other speaker under 10,000 dollars and can tell you that if you get a chance to get an old pair of Reference 3a speakers made in France by Daniel DeHay...BUY THEM you won't regret it.
