Well this week I picked up something that I was not that attracted to in the past - a MyBook external drive.
I need more space and my PC has all the SATA connections taken up by my 4 SATA drives.
This is a black, book-shaped USB hard drive. These Western Digital drives were not the cheapest especially in the 150-250GB range. I got the 500GB version at Circuit City for $179 - .35/GB - I can certainly live with this and did not want 2 250GB external drives.
You can get this from NewEgg for a couple dollars less even after shipping but I have it now...
There are a few factors that made me pick this up now
- I wanted a full 500GB drive.
- price is reasonable for 500GB, about the cheapest I could find for an external unit.
- drive looks nice (black and unobtrusive) and will like good sitting next to a future HTPC/gaming console.
- this drive turns on and off with the PC! That is a nice feature that not all of these external USB drives have
- not very important but comes with Google file indexing software that I will check out.
This is hopefully the last storage purchase I make before going to an eSata solution...
