sub/intergrations with sp1 or sp1.7
« on: 19 Apr 2007, 04:46 pm »
Hi,
 I have a question reguarding the sp1 or sp1.7,

I am currently using pmc monitors with velodyne sub. i currently have a b&k ref.50 preamp, with a bryston 9bsst.
Im going to upgrade to either an sp1 or 1.7 ,but have heard, that when in 2 channel (analogue ) mode, there is no sub output??  is there any way to get around this? since my sub does not have any high level inputs (nor do i want to wire it that way) if it did.
what if im listening to music with the sub on, does this mean i will have to go through the dsp in 2 channel mode, in order to have the sub on??

thanks

Phil A

When you say 2-channel mode, I assume you mean 2-channel bypass?  If you're talking 2-channel bypass, it is what it says it is 'bypass' so there is no circuitry in the path that allows setting of a crossover.  I don't have that issue as I have Rel subs with their own crossover and high level voume control.  2-channel bypass is not the only 2-channel mode but it is the cleanest.

Yes, both the SP1 and SP1.7 and SP2 allow the sub output enabled when in 2 channel bypass mode.

There is a simple control code that turns it on and off for the SP1.7 and SP2 and a special set of buttons pressed for the SP1.

But there's a catch. The signal that comes out the sub output is a full range signal that you have to bass manage yourself. Usually the solution would be to incorporate the low pass filter on the sub itself for that management. You do have to go over and turn the knob on the sub when in bypass though.... That full range signal is simply a untouched analog mix of the right and left main channel...
