What would be the reason?  Sounds intriguing, if it would add anything.

Just thought I'd throw it out there for discussion because Louis did mention it on his website.

Hi Rajacat,

Biamping is the only way to keep the speakers at 8-ohm impedance. It's part of the versatility of the design. You can also convert the speaker to a 1.5 way with a coil on the rear driver for bass only, but this would make the speaker a monopole.

Thanks again,
Louis

Louis,

I happen to have some shotgun speaker cables. Would there be any advantage to biwiring the Bipoles? Also some have been running the Bipoles in the dipole configuration, in your testing which do you prefer? To my ears with my setup the dipoles seem to be a little more transparent and the bipole a little warmer and with less separation of the instruments.

I'm interested in getting a SET. In your opinion which tube type would be most compatible with the Bipoles? It does seem that the Bipoles like power. Any recommendations of builder/brand?

Hi Rajacat,

With biwire cables you would be able to bypass the jumpers and this would only work in 4-ohm mode.

I do like the dipole better for exactly what you mentioned and you’re right on about the differences. I do change from one to the other, but tend to listen in Dipole more.

If you have short stand and can tilt the speakers back a little for even better soundstaging.

A little higher power would be better in a SET.  300Bs are very good and Welborn is a great amp. You can try a used wavelength Duetta if you can find one. For a 2A3 I would look at the Sun Audio. It’s sounds like it should be more than 3 watts so this amp would work, but I’m pretty interested in the Sun Audio single ended EL-34 amp.

Not SET but very surprising is the new Dynakit ST35. It’s $495 as a kit and worth every penny.

Thanks again,
Louis
