I'm wondering if you can use XLR between the SP1.7 and 9B for the front three speakers and RCA's for the rear. Or do they all need to either XLR or RCA

thanks

You can use both simultaneously.  You can also use two(2) subs utilizing both XLR and RCA sub out.  Bua ha ha ha

I have a quick verification question here.  I am using an SP1.7 with an outboard dac and analog 2-ch bypass.  It sounds great.  I want to integrate a sub into the analog chain without using the sub outs.  My thought is to add a Velodyne SMS-1 for eq of the sub.  Right now, I use the xlr out of the SP1.7 to feed my 9BSST amp.  Can I simultaneously use the RCA out for the front left and right channel to send the same signal to the Velodyne SMS-1 and onto the subwoofer.  Will both the XLR and RCA out simultaneously feed the same signal in 2-channel bypass?  Thanks!

Here is how I would do it.  I would use the speaker level input of your subwoofer in conjuction with 2-ch bypass input.  This will give you better 2ch sound IMHO since the signal is coming from the amplifier's output.  You will then need to use the subs eq to match the speakers.

I own an SP 1.7 and SMS-1 and want to have a pure 2 ch by pass.  The SMS-1 digititzes the input / outputs. So I cheated.  I bought a 10B cross over for the front L & R and the lows go to a Velodyne HGS 12 sub.  I have my SP 1.7 sub out to the SMS-1 and then to a different set of subs.  Yeah I know it is a bit complicated but my easy solution is to buy those new EB-1's (the floor standing version of the IB-1) and ditch the 10B and Velodyne Sub.  There is only one problem with that scenario - I need $
