New Half-Kit?

I have an idea here for a small product, an accessory.  In testing out my new PA-10 amplifier, I think I want to have a clipping indicator, so I know when to not push it any harder.  So I got this idea of an inline peak detector for the inputs.  Since I know the sensitivity of the amplifier, I just set the knob to "0.93V".  Then, any time an input peak goes too high, an LED will momentarily light.

I was just going to quickly wire up a simple circuit running from a 9V battery, but then thought this could be a useful kit.  Would anyone want a cheap kit for this?  It is RCA in and out, and I tap off it (like the cia) through a resistor, so very little impact on sonics.  For me, it's just to test out installations until I get a good idea where I can set the linestage volume control.  The knob can be set to work with any amplifier.

I would love to have one because I am removing my speaker x-over polyswitches.  There are lots of people I know who have done this and this kit seems like a necessity for this situation.

But, I don't quite get it.  Would you run 2 rca-outs from the pre-amp to this box and then 2 more rca's to the amplifier?  Or could you just tap off the amplifier outs to this new box?  I thought you'd need to read the voltage from the amplifier, not the pre-amp. :?

You could do it either on the amp inputs or outputs.  Knowing the sensitivity of the amp (say 1.0Vrms for full power), you just read that level.  If the amp were SS, then it likely clips hard with a flat top.  Hence, if you misadjust the level, you'd never hit the trigger.  That's the one issue I see.  On the other hand, you wouldn't need the RCA jacks, just alligator or banana jacks.

Read the blog today, I like it. I would buy one in heart beat!!!

I am sure that once the word got around they would sell like hot cakes to amp builders then would probably settle down. Maybe order a reasonable amount of boards to see how it takes off.
