Empirical Audio modded components
« on: 2 Aug 2006, 03:31 am »
Steve Nugent recently put the finishing touches on 2 of my components modded by him: A Mark Levinson No.37 & Electrocompaniet ECD-1 Dac. I'm very happy with the results. I wouldn't call myself a technically minded audiophile, I just know what I hear & what I hear is great. CD playback is more open & detailed, even on regular issue CD's. The cost was moderate & well worth it. The other components in my system are not modified but I may have my preamp done by Steve sometime in the future. My intention here is to draw the reader to Empirical Audio & Steve Nugent. He always took the time to answer all my emails & was a gentleman at all times. I was a little skeptical about modding at first but not since I took the plunge with Empirical Audio. Readers: Don't rush into anything but consider modifying your components. It's well worth it. I will try to answer any replies.

I read on the website that Empirical also mods the Parasound JC-1 monoblocks.
But, I'm just curious, as the line voltage is 230v here in europe.
Is there a trafo tap for 230v already in there?
I mean, can one buy a (used/demo) set in the US, have it sendt to empirical and upgraded and set to 230v easy?

I can reconfigure them from 117VAC to 230VAC for Europe.  I have already done this for other foreign customers.  You can buy a 117VAC version and ship it to me direct for mods.

I can also purchase a new one and give you some discount.  I'm a Parasound dealer.

Not at all. BTW, lest anyone get the wrong impression, Steve and I live a couple of thousand miles apart and we have no business relationships. I just happen to have several of his products (turbo off-ramp, modded DAC, modded transport, modded Parasound, etc) and couldn't be happier with any of them. :singing:

I am another "offshore" 230 volt customer of Steve and a happy one at that.
I had followed exactly the same route as you are thinking of, with the JC-1's.
Bought on-line, used , and 110 volts, got them shipped to Steve for mods and had them shipped
to my home.
