Audio Retailers Positive or negative experience

It appears there are many stories to be told both good and bad. What is your story or opinion? Why do you think high end sales are up or down

I like shopping at Harvey's.  They have very nice folks working there and you can just walk-in to audition their equipment anytime. :thumb:  I actually bought lots of stuffs there.  It is true that you pay a little more upfront but the support and service goes a long way.  I love to listen to their Sonus Faber Cremona speakers and McIntosh amps.  I always see boxes of goodies going out the door so they are doing really well.

That's before I learned about Audiogon which has more variety .  I'll tell you which one to avoid:  "S_ _ _ _  by S_ _ _ _ _".  I remembered asking them for an XLR-to-RCA converter and they send me to RadioShack.  Hmmm...Another sales guy from the same store try to sell me a peice of RCA cable to use as Digital Coax.  He used to post here but I have not heard from them for years now.

Interesting question. While considering it, I realized I haven't bought anything in a retail store since 1980. I did trade a Krell preamp for a McIntosh tuner straight across in 1995 though.

For a lot of us it might be a moot issue because we live in places where the retail option doesn't exist. The only store in my area sells home theater and has almost no equipment on display. I guess they just prescribe it from catalogs.

I'm very lucky that I have many retailers in my area (Philadelphia) from which to chose.  I've had great experiences with The Stereo Trading Outlet, Quest for Sound, and David Lewis Audio.  Interestingly though, the only significant purchase I've made from any of them was a set of brand new Revel F30's for $2K from STO.

We have two really good stores here in Atlanta:  Audio Atlanta in Marietta and Sound & Cinema in Alpharetta.

I've received great customer service at both. :)

I grew up in Stone Mountain, GA and went to GSU 1990s.  We always go to Sound & Cinema and to Georgia Home Theater.  HifiBuys just doesn't cut it anymore.
