Advise on Top Class Analogue Parametric Equiliser
« on: 23 Feb 2007, 11:03 am »
Hello Circlers
I am loking for a first class analogue parametric equiliser
GML comes to mind.

I has to be analogue as 99% of the time I listen to my vinyl rig.
And it would be ludicrous for me to pass it through a digital PEQ

So, advise my friends.
cheers

Thanks Dmason
the one I am looking at is both analogue and digital.
Looks great though
What about Avalon AD2055?
Is it really that good or just hype

Get the Rives PARC!!! I listen 90% of the time to vinyl. I was having bass issues due to my new listening room (it's a condo living room). It fixed the bass problems and then the real magic began!! I was missing so much inner detail  :duh: I'm hearing music within the music that I haven't heard before. Some of this music I've been listening to for 20 years!! It's not cheap($3200.00) but worth every penny to me.

Good Luck,

The Massenberg is REALLY nice.

For something more reasonably priced (out of production but they come up now and then)

I use a 551E with an Symmetrix active DA box for conversion from unbalanced out to balanced.  Use it on my sub channel only - and yes - I use all 5 bands just from 60Hz down.

Looks like all the parametric eq's on the rane site are digital. Even the one's with analog controls say digital.
Did I miss one thats analog?

I have only used the mic pre's from this company and they are very nice, their EQ has both tubes and solid state though!

The PE17 sure looks opamp based to me.   They say "digital" just for marketing reasons.

I have an Orban 764 digital controlled analog eq brand new in box, thought it has been in that box for some years. Signal path is all analog using ladder dacs. I also have a stereo slave unit. Might be of intesest to someone. Otherwise, the Orban 622 or 624 can be found on ebay, also look into the para-graphic 672 or 674, all out of production now.

If you're in the Rane price range, take a look at Ashly

http://www.ashly.com/

But, it looks like the PQX 571/572 have been retired.

Can't go wrong with GML but there are other options to Avalon. Avalon I think are sweet too and they make a super awesome direct box, but there Pre's and compressors are just kinda okay IMHO.
Their EQ's are fine and land somewhere between the Manley and the Focusrite for me.

http://www.focusrite.com/
There ISA series is excellent great mic pres too, very refined eq's a little sterile or clinical and very super clean.
The older "Blue Series" would be good for room EQ as they are stepped, designed for mastering.

http://www.manleylabs.com/
Great EQ's sort of the opposite of the Fosucrite much more character yet still pretty clean!
Manley EQ's and compressors are great for vocals IMHO
Like the old Pultec or Neve EQ's these have a sonic signature that may not work for room EQ?

http://www.tube-tech.com/
I have not used their EQ's but there tube compressors are to die for!!!!!
LCA 2 is Easily one of the best tube compressors I have used, just awesome.
So much so I would have to investigate if I was looking for an analog EQ.
Same with http://www.mil-media.com/ their Mic pre's are out of this world
and twin Topology would be fun to experiment with.

Come to think of it, this phono pre has EQ's and with a nice platter would be a nice front end indeed! :D
