M&K Sound Closed?
« on: 26 Feb 2007, 06:12 am »
Their website states that Miller & Kreisel Sound is now closed. Anyone know anything about this?

"As of Thursday, Feb 22, 2007, the M&K Factory is closed.
For more information regarding Ken Kreisel's recent decision to close the M&K Chatsworth factory
after 34 years, please email Ken Kreisel directly by clicking this link:"

I had used a pair of their satellites with their subwoofer for almost 20 years (1986-2004). The satellites each had 4 drivers, 2 open baffle and 2 sealed box. Nice stuff for the money. Sorry to see them go.

Yes, indeed, sorry to see them go if this is truly the case. I had purchased one of their B-Stock subs late last summer and was looking to pick up another one. On the other hand, the http://www.mksoundstore.com site also says "The store is temporarily offline for maintenance. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please come back later." Maybe there's hope?

The notice is somewhat vague in that it says the Chatsworth factory is closing, but does not say the company is closing. Maybe they are finally going to out source manufacturing overseas. They had a price increase last year. I know some dealers of the consumer line have been upset that it takes so long to get product. M&K does not rush anything.

I've built two 2.1 systems around their speakers, subs and bass management controllers. Best speaker systems I have heard. Great customer service. I clicked on the send Ken an email for additional information. No reply yet.

DaveF at Ascend (former M&K designer) posted some clarification on the Ascend forum here: http://forum.ascendacoustics.com/showthread.php?p=21233#post21233

It is my understanding that they are completely shut down and every employee (including the sales force) has been let go.

Damned shame.  I've never personally heard any of their stuff, but it was highly regarded and they were around forever.  It sucks to see another one bite the dust.

Every year the market for high-end audio shrinks.  Yet there seem to be more new companies than ever hawking stuff at CES.  It's bewildering.  My friend calls it vanity business planning.

Too bad, M&K stuff was very good.  Always like the few models auditioned.  For some reason they turned up often at CD & record stores.

My HT is their 150S THX line.  Totally awesome theater sound with tight dynamic lows.  Their music store was also a good source for quality classical and jazz recordings.  They will be missed :(.

The S150 THX are awesome for Home Theater. They can play loud and cleanly with no distortion.
Sad to see M&K gone.
