Elpac WM220-1 Mod
« on: 12 Jan 2007, 11:12 pm »
Hello,

I been lurking here a while and have located a source and a good price for the Elpac psu after some research but it has a DIN connector on one end. Can I have it modified and the cable changed to fit the SB3?

I sure hope the answer is 'yes'!

Is the WM220-1 a good unit to upgrade to and just change the plug until it will be modded later.

The WM220-1 in stock form is a multi-voltage output PS.

It has a separate "section" for 12 VDC. This will pull a bit of current away from the 5 volt section.

When I mod the PS, I remove everything to do with the 12 VDC section.

I have never used the WM220-1 in it's stock form so I cannot comment on how it sounds compared to any other PS.

Wayne,

Can the 220 be setup to use the 12v output instead of 5v?  Would it have enough current capability to work as a supply for the RWA battery box with AC option?  I'm getting another SB2 with RWA mods and am having Vinnie add the switch for external PS to the battery enclosure.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim,

The + 12 volt output on the ELPAC WM220-1 is for 0.5A. Not enough current to use with a SB.

Wayne,

Thanks.  I'll probably get one anyway for the 5v mods.

If anybody's interested, there is a seller on eBay now selling them for $29 plus shipping, and he has 9 left.
