Using a Digital Only Modded Squeezebox

Wayne, in your using a moddified squeezebox section you talk about using firmware 15 to get correct phase from the speakers.

"In order to hear the correct phase of the signal, you should use Firmware 15 with you modded SB. Mike Galusha has written a great little piece of software for a Firmware Selector. It is available here. There is also some good discussion about various firmwares and where to get them.

If you use a later version of the firmware, you should reverse the polarity of your speaker wires to get the correct phase. This means changing the + and - wires around. So the wire that normally go to your + terminal will now go to your -. This can be changed at the amp or the speakers."

Is this for both digital and analog mods?

Or just analog mods?

The inversion of phase is only a "problem" with the analog mods.

Some people do hear a difference with different versions of the firmware from the digital output. This is something that you have to listen for yourself to see if you can hear a difference on your system.

Using Mike Galusha's firmware selector, it is very easy to switch between the different firmware version to see what sounds best on your system.
