Please help! SL Remote for Candela question
« on: 28 Mar 2007, 12:32 pm »
Hi All,

Well I finally received my SL remote for volume control of my new Candela.  Gotta say it's not the nicest remote I've held, but hey...it works just fine.

However I've always planned to use it to "program" a learning remote I have (Rotel learning remote I use with my processor and CD player).  Last night I tried to program the learning remote (point the two at each other and go through the "learn" sequence).  The learning remote said "OK" but did not work, i.e. could not adjust the volume on the Candela.   :dunno:

I then tried the learning remote with a different remote (another Rotel,  )and was successful, so I know that I got the learning sequence correct and I know the learning function is working on the learning remote.

Has anyone else been successful teaching a learning remote with a SL remote?  Is there any reason that the SL remote wouldn't talk with a learning remote?  Are some learning remotes better than others or do they all function about the same.

Please help!  I'll be seriously disappointed if I can't do this and have to keep another remote on the table only for volume control  :duh:

I don't know specifically about the Candella remote but have had customers with the same issues with other remotes.  It's likely one of two things:

- The Candella operates in the higher frequency band that some learning remotes won't sense.
- The Candella uses an RF remote as opposed to an IR remote.

Klaus would have to weigh in on this to verify.

Well I spoke with Klaus and he confirms that other customers have successfully taught a learning remote using a SL remote.  He also confirmed that I would not see any difference with the normal, cheaper black remote that comes with the Candela / Tempest.

So I guess my current learning remote isn't up to it.  Probably operated in a more narrow frequency.

So, has anyone here successfully taught a learning remote with the SL remote?  Can you please tell me exactly which learning remote(s) have worked for you in this regard?

Much appreciated!

What is the difference between the SL remote and the nromal remote?

Any pictures of this remote exist?

The SL remote will also control a SL CD player and tuner.  The regular one is Candela vol only.  I'm told they both run the same frequency.  I'll see if I can post a pic of the SL remote soon.
