Demo CD swap anyone ???
« on: 25 Jun 2003, 12:33 am »
I have been meaning to put together a mixed CD that has a bunch of demo material that I like to use when checking out new gear. I noticed that Wayne from Bolder Cables made a similar CD for circulation with the MENSA DI/O audition kit. So, I figured that I'd ask whether others have similar CDs made, and whether we could work out some swaps. It would be a useful way to explore new (and mostly well recorded) music.

I don't want to get the copyright police fired up about this...

:peek:

I think that it's pretty clear that the point here isn't to pirate music. The point is to check out new revealing music. Shoot, I'd bet that this would lead to more CD sales than piracy.

Anybody interested?

I'm interested.  Here's the playlist:

  1. Alan Gampel - Chopin and Liszt Piano Sonatas - Chopin sonata no 3 op 58 in B minor - Finale/presto, non tanto
  2. CI Williams - When Alto Was King - I'll Close My Eyes
  3. Days of the New - Days of the New 2 - Weapon & the Wound
  4. Earth, Wind & Fire - All 'N All - Jupiter
  5. Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard - Gladiator - The Might of Rome
  6. Oscar Peterson - Night Train - C-Jam Blues
  7. Porcupine Tree - In Absentia - Blackest Eyes
  8. Sade - Lovers Rock - Somebody Already Broke My Heart
  9. Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing - Do What You Have To Do

All were ripped as WAVs, burned on to a Memorex black CDR at 4x via Nero disc-at-once.

I'd be glad to swap with anyone else.

I wish I had a burner!  I have found better success finding music I like this was vs. CD recommendations.  Good luck with your trades, guys.

Ok, here is what I ended up with. Several Grateful Dead tributes and side projects, but I think that I'll get a lot of mileage out of this disc. If anyone is interested please PM me.

1.   Bird Song - Wake the Dead (amazing Celtic ensemble plays Grateful Dead tunes)
2.   Rimshot - Erykah Badu - Baduizm
3.   Black Muddy River - The Persuasions - Might as Well...
4.   Kiko and the Lavender Moon - Los Lobos - Kiko
5.   Louis Collins - Garcia/Grisman - Shady Grove
6.   Pagan, Pay Gone - Midnite - Ras Mek Peace
7.   Lighten Up - Beastie Boys - Check Your Head
8.   Flight of the Cosmic Hippo - Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - Flight...
9.   Chan Chan - Buena Vista Social Club
10. Shady Grove - Garcia/Grisman - Shady Grove
11. Message to a Friend - Haden/Metheney - Beyond the Missouri Sky
12. Thrill is Gone - Garcia/Grisman - Jerry Garcia / David Grisman
13. The Day Before You Came - ABBA - The Collection (my wife picked it, I swear)
14. Ripple - The Persuasions - Might as Well...
15. Casey Jones - Garcia/Grisman - Shady Grove (not the Casey Jones that you're thinking of)
16. Scarlet Begonias - Grateful Dead June 11, 1976 - (Imperfect, but a pretty good SBD recording from my collection)

Next up for me is to mix up a disc or two or whatever I end up with of individual live song performances from my Grateful Dead collection... sonics won't be perfect but this is about the music.
