SME Series III
« on: 16 Jul 2003, 04:46 am »
I just bought a decent, used analog setup to get back into vinyl again.  Records were "it" when I was growing up, CD's hadn't come along yet.
I can't find a manual for the tonearm that came mounted on this (new to me) Rega Planar 3 TT, it says SME Series III on it and the former owner identified it as a 3009 III .
Is anyone familiar with this piece and could tell me where a manual might be acquired.   Sound quality is pretty good w/ the new Benz M20E 2 that was mounted in it.  A bit bright right now, as it is just out of the box, but lots of detail and bass.
Maybe it would sound even better if I knew what all those little screw things on the arm were for.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Try Vinyl Engine. They list the manual for the SME.

http://www.nakedresource.com/library_tonearms.shtml

I've always found the site difficult to navigate. They require you to register to access the manuals in the members area . And I don't really remember where the members area is.

Thanks for the suggestion, Tonto.  I tried to get into that site a day or so ago after  a search on Vinyl Asylum but was stopped by a message that their forum and download area is in maintenance mode (still there.)  SME's site is also a pretty bad, they don't even list it.
Maybe a member who reads this has a copy and could fax it.  The arm is still functional but is not current technology.

You won't have any luck with the Vinyl Engine.

The forum and download area are closed until further notice

thanks to all those who have supported the site over the previous year and who gave thier time to make it a success. unfortunately due to other commitments the forum and download sections have been closed; they will be reopened if and when I get the time to update and maintain them.

please do not email me requesting manuals or asking when the forum is to reopen as I don't have the time to reply at the moment. due to the volume of email I have been receiving all such requests are being deleted at the server. any decision on the form in which the files may be reintroduced, or the forum reopened will be announced on this page.

feel free to browse the rest of the site which will stay online for the forseeable future and for alternative turntable forums check out the links page

BUT there is a copy of the manual here:
