Oops. I didn't read the right page. Hmmm, 76 db, not great signal to noise. They're saying the amp specs at more like 120 watts/channel. Sounds like it might be an ATI built unit. My 1202 is supposed to be a 120 watt/channel, but actually gets 140 watts/channel into 8 ohms.

But it is dead quiet. Alarmingly quiet. I frequently flip the standby switch, when I come home, thinking it was in standby already, and then have a panic attack when I press play and don't hear anything!

I'm referring to the actual measurements of the amp done by Stereophile, not Outlaw's marketing claims.  The S/N ratio in particular is significantly worse than advertised.  From the review:
"The RR2150 was not the quietest amplifier I have encountered, with a wideband, A-weighted S/N ratio (measured with the input short-circuited and the volume control at its maximum) of 76dB ref. 1W into 8 ohms. A-weighting improved this figure to 83.9dB."

Is somehow that statement redundant (about the a-weighting)? Is there an error somewhere?

Hello,
I've been in this game for awhile and recently I found myself with my bedroom-system standby in my main system! That's right, a Harmon Kardon stereo receiver that looks right, sounds okay and has a decent radio too! Is there anything out there as clean and convient with better resolution for just a little more money? 

i dunno about a little *more* money, but perhaps you can find what you're lookng for, for a little *less* money.   aa  check out vintage gear.  harman kardon made some killer receivers - the twin-power series...  excellent tunas in them as well.  so did sansui, pioneer, marantz, revox, tandberg...  for sound quality, i would pick any of these over any contemporary offering.  if you only need 30wpc, you would be hard-pressed to beat this, even if it was a lot more than its $150 asking price:

The receiver is dead quite. Also, a year has passed since Stereopile did their review and the receiver is just now barely into production. Perhaps Outlaw has made some changes. I listened to some vinyl through it last night and for $650, I couldn't be more pleased. I don't believe the stated S/N ratio...I just hear music. The FM is real quite as well.

I am replacing some old vintage Marantz receivers. The wife had a 2220b in her sewing room and I had a Marantz 1530 in the den. I just decided that they were getting really old and perhaps becoming a fire hazard. The capacitors are 35+ years old. She got a new Marantz SR4021 which is very nice for $400 w/80 watts RMS per channel, and I picked the Outlaw for the den.

If you want some old stuff, I guess you can go through that hassle, I just thought for a new product, these two receivers compared favorably to my old favorites which now can sit on a shelf and look cool.

if you spend a few bucks on refurb'ing quality vintage gear, not only will it ensure its safety/reliability, but you will make it sound even better. aa

Yeah the walnut cabinet is a little warmer, not so sibilant but still has the extension. The oak cabinet is definitely harder and a little more up-front in the vocal range with not as much bass but what’s there is tighter.

Does it have the power cord mod? If not, you definitely want it.

another vote for Sherwood. A good friend is manager of a home theater specialist store in Calgary. He has a strong background in audiophilia. When I asked him for advice on receivers on behalf of a friend, his strong suggestion was that I try to talk him into Sherwood in general, and he mentioned the R771 at $900 Canadian in particular.
