Further Reflections On the XRS Dipole
« on: 28 Jun 2007, 12:46 am »
I was fortunate enough to purchase from a fellow AC member, 4" maple platforms with mapleshade spikes that I have put under my XRS Dipole's.  I have the front end of the speakers tilted up by placing Ayre myrtle blocks under the speakers.  The effect of these tweaks is that the instruments and vocals that the speakers have become rock solid and very anchored in the recording venue.  There is no wavering of the image, it is tangible and real.  I am not saying that it can make an unrealistic recording more lifelike, what I am saying is that it will show you what the recording has.  Because of this, I find that I can become more emotionally involved in the listening experience.  Why?; because the rational part of my brain does not have to work as hard searching for cues.  My brain can immediately place and identify the instruments, leaving me to savor the tone, harmonics, and the prat that the HempTones are capable of.  The sound is not bound to the speakers, and especially late at night when I turn off the lights the speakers simply disappears.
    Good job Louis!

Hi ZLS,
Many thanks for your update and sharing your experience with the maple and myrtle blocks. I'm a firm believer in these types of tweaks and very happy your combo is working out great. I have had great sound with Ebony as well. I also like end grain Maple butcher block. It's a bit more expensive though.

Thanks again and I hope everyone has a great 4th of July,
Louis
