January jam?
« on: 20 Jan 2007, 01:01 am »
Hi guys.

After a long and winding process, I've just accepted a job offer in Denver.  I won't be leaving for 6 weeks yet, but there is no way I'm leaving without hosting a jam!

Hosting this jam is going to be something of a snapshot on my part, as I need to prep my house for sale.  Unfortunately, this means interior painting which will require me to take down my acoustic treatments.  My room is pretty horrible as it is, and taking down my treatments isn't going to help, so I'd like to have the get-together before that happens.

So, with that said, how does next weekend (Jan 27/28) look for you guys?  Things are happening rapidly for me at the moment, but I think I can make either Sat or Sun afternoon work.  I haven't thought about food yet, but we could probably run the jam across lunch, depending on people's interests.

My gear:

- VTI racks with split Norsorex "unhappy" balls for vibration damping
- BPT 3.5 Signature power conditioner with Z-Sleeve removed, but Wattgate outlets and Bybees added
- CEC TL51x transport with borrowed Acoustic Zen Tsunami power cord
- Cryotweeks digital coax, Stereovox HDVX digital coax, or borrowed Green Hornet digital coax
- TRL modded Audio Logic 24MXL DAC (tubed and direct outputs) with Acoustic Zen Tsunami power cord
- Cryotweeks ICs, borrowed ElectraCable ICs or borrowed Bodgen ICs
- Arcam AVR300 receiver
- Straley speaker cables
- Bubinga Salk HT3s with full mods including Baltic Birch construction, BH5, Cardas Pantented Binding Posts, Straley wiring, and external crossovers with Sonicap upgrade

One comment on the speakers: The use of Baltic Birch in my speakers turned out to be problematic, as it caused the lacquer finished to crack rather badly.  Jim has since moved to a much more durable finishing process, and my speakers will be going back to receive that treatment.  The point is, don't judge Jim's work based on the finish quality of my particular pair of HT3s, as neither of us expected the Baltic Birch to cause these problems.

I don't really have an agenda for the jam.  If you have gear that you'd like to bring, let me know and we'll see what we can do.  My Arcam has pre-amp outputs, so we can play with external amps without needing a separate pre-amp.  If you want to experiment with pre-amps, however, we'll need someone to bring an external amp, as the Arcam doesn't have power-amp inputs.  (The AVR300 is an intermediate step on the road to something else.  Eventually, it will serve HT duty but will be bypassed in 2 channel mode.)

If you are interested in attending, please let me know, as I have limited room.  Depending on the response, I may have to limit attendance, although I'll try not to.

Thanks, and enjoy your weekend!

Evening, Gents!

So far arthurs, marvda1, hoots and oscar have expressed interest in stopping by, depending on the day and time.  At the moment, we're leaning toward Sunday because that seems to create fewer conflicts for people, but I can make either day work.  Don't forget to let me know if you'd like to bring any gear.

Anyone else thinking about wandering in?  The penalty for showing up unannounced is that you get to help me paint the house afterwards! :)

Welcome to AC, Tracer!

I think I'll have room for you.  Right now it looks like we have two guys leaning toward a Sunday meet and two guys that can make it regardless.  What kind of schedule do you have this weekend?

I'll have a better idea of my own requirements for the weekend by tomorrow afternoon.  I'll keep everyone posted.  For those that don't have my address already, shoot me a PM with your email address and I'll send out directions.

By the way, I have a pair of AKG701 headphones if anyone is curious about them.  I currently drive them straight from my computer at work, but have only my AVR300 to use at home.  Thus, we'd have to shut down the Salks to play with them, unless someone else has an alternative headphone gear chain.

Sunday is better than Saturday for me.My attendance is uncertain as a result of out of town business. In any event,I will monitor this thread to see what suits those of you who are more certain to attend.

Ok, let's make it Sunday from 12:00 to whenever.

I'm feeling carnivorous, so I'll pick up some burgers and brats to grill, along with some chips and veggies.  If you don't mind, I'll leave it up to you guys to bring whatever beverages you'd like, as my selection is just about nil.  If you are feeling inspired and would like to bring something else, just let me know, but otherwise, don't worry about it.

Right now, it looks like our head count is 4 plus myself.  If I've missed anyone, please let me know.  If someone else is interested in stopping by, please feel free.  (Jeff? Danny? Guy?)  We can handle a few more, but remember... if you show up unannounced, you get to help paint!  aa

Again, shoot me an email and I'll send out contact info and directions.

Definitely bring your music.  If you'd like to bring cables and/or gear, please feel free.  If not, we'll just sit back, relax and enjoy the music!

See you Sunday!

By the way, I've only received email from Marvin so far... so if you aren't Marvin, but sent me an email, my spam filter ate it!

Tracer, are you still thinking of attending?  If you want to shoot me an email address via PM, I'll send directions out to everyone at once.

marvda1, hoots and oscar, I have your email addresses - thanks.

Oscar, I was wrong - I don't have your email address.  If you'd like to pass it along, I'll email you the directions.

Tracer, if you would like to visit, you're more than welcome - just PM me an email address.

Thanks!
