Is there a difference in Optical cables?
« on: 28 Jan 2007, 05:11 pm »
I was wondering is there is difference in optical cables. I have a Olive Musica, and I am using the optical cable that came with it. Is there any better to be found that will give a noticable difference? Has anyone tried anything? Thank you

Not a cable expert, but i think it is generally thought that optical cables made from "plastic" fiber, are not as good as those made from glass.

That said, I also think many would suggest a "good" coax as being a better choice.

The only advantages of glass over plastic is that it can handle a larger volume of data. Optical cables also can handle more data than coax. But that is all irrelevant because even the coax cable is able to handle more data than it is necessary for today's audio needs.

If you enjoy reading Srajan here's an interesting, if somewhat dated, article... http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/toslink/toslink.html

I really like the Stereovox HDXV myself, it can be had for $75 from time to time from a fellow that advertises at A'gon.  He rates them a 9 but, they are factory sealed and include the bnc adaptors.
