Pretty cool, but nothing new. This company has been developing digital motion picture capture for a while now, you can rent the rig for a paltry $3000/day.

Although the video is impressive, I am not impressed with the sample still pictures.

If you want hi-res, I think you'll be wanting this:

Unfortunately, it's still only and film based, but check out the resolution!

Yes Russel that's it.  That's pretty large picture file.  It is so big I can make several crops and make a picture out of those.

Damn! :o

Well, 12mp is pretty much the equivalent to 35mm film (if you were able to convert film to a pixel count).

But what out there can project/display the 2540p that this camera records in?

I wasn't able to download the video (no seeds, that and bittorrenting anything has always been a headache with my router) but the stills are amazing.  I have my doubts that my computer could even play it, it had trouble with a regular HD video I downloaded once.  The stills have that flawless, creamy quality that just begs to be sharpened and punched up a bit.  That look is usually what you get from drum-scanned film.  I'm just blown away that something that large could be shot continuously.  I did see some stuff about it on YouTube.  At one demo they claimed they were using the only 4K projector in the world.  Sounds hugely impractical in terms of bandwidth, but I just think it's cool that there's folks pushing the boundaries into insane resolutions. Who knows if these guys will succeed.  Perhaps one day the detail will be so high that we will be able to suspend disbelief in the visual illusion as we sometimes can with the audio illusion today.  We might wonder "Is that a window or a screen?"

However, we might ask ourselves, is it really that desireable to see every hair and crag on someone's skin?  Could too much resolution be a bad thing?  Hmmm...

They had a break in in September and someone stole camera prototype, computer files, and computer
bits. There was talk of a $100k reward.
