Cartridge & Turntable/Tonearm matching
« on: 1 Apr 2007, 04:32 pm »
Hello to all-I'd like to ask how & where I can find any info on matching my specific turntable (Technics 1200 GLD) & tonearm to cartridge choices.
Thank You

RonB:
You recently started another thread here asking for help with your analog front end.  Did you have any success in getting an improvement in playback quality?  Which Ortofon cartridge are you using?  I could not find one w/ the designation 150.

No...my system has morphed over the past 2 weeks...I've gone from a Parasound 3 channel amp to a Sherborne 7 channel to prep for my move to Home Theater & rear channels...also a changeout of an older Parasound HT pre-pro to an Emotiva DMC-1 w/ an on-board phono stage...the Technics TT (1200 GLD) I picked up w/ the Ortofon 50 something cartridge broke so Kevin @ KAB set me up w/ another Ortofon...the model # I can't remember right now (I'm @ work) but its a MM...I'm not sure if the new/ different cartridge set up is proper & that's the first thing I have to research & work on but my system has NEVER sounded so bad (on CD or vinyl)...lots of hash & the vinyl is recessed, thick, muddy & several heavy veils...no where what I remember from  my last vinyl playback rig (20+ years ago w/ a Bang & Olufson TT &  Carver receiver)-it's been mentioned & advised that I check the processor function set up but I have to wait until next week to get the On Screen Display set up-damn shift work!!!-Thank You for asking!-send up your prayers to the audio gods.I'll keep The Vinyl Circle posted!

As a follow up....after we had power returned to us from our outage last Thursday & Friday i finally had time to sit down & go through the processor set up & all sources (music audio, vinyl & video) now sound 100% better  :green: I'm now moving on to vinyl cleaning & researching a digital source upgrade.
Thanks for your time!!!
