best wireless router?

I have just about had it with my older linksys befsr41/wap11 combination. I have had previous problems with these routers.
Is there a better wireless router available now?
I am networking my pc with xp, olive musica and xbox 360.
I was looking at a linksys WRT54GX2, and was going to pull the trigger on it, but thought I would check for suggestions, looking for durability and reliability with decent customer service.

It sounds as if I suffered your same frustration only with a Netgear MIMO router that had to be rebooted at least once a week. Here's what I went for after reading the many positive reviews. ZyXEL X-550 IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g Xtreme MIMO Wireless Broadband Router. I've had it for about two months and the only time I've rebooted it was when the electricity went off at my house due to construction. BTW, I am using firmware 1.3 and I don't force it to 108.

It's rock solid and very fast. Finally my VOIP phone works great and my Squeezebox works perfectly with a 95+ signal strength constantly. The router has special circuitry that automatically senses streaming audio, video and VOIP phone traffic. It gives that data a priority. I highly recommend it!

I've been eyeing the D-Link DGL-4300 for some time. I have a Zonenet Gigabit network router (wired only) so it would be nice to bridge them via gigabit connection and enjoy fast wireless too. Has anyone played with one?

In contrast to Bill's problems, I've been using a NetGear WPN824 for approx 13 months now and only had to reboot it once. I use it wirelessly for a SqueezeBox2 and my wife's Toshiba laptop, and wired to 6 other PC's (via a D-Link DES-1008D 8-port switch). I've never had any problems with drop outs, freezing, or range.

This is the best wireless router. I have it, it's super quick, and it has very long range. It's better than the prior Netgear/US Robotics/Dlink routers I've had. It was truly plug N play but if you know what you're doing, it has a ton of controls as well.

I've been using a Netgear Rangemax wireless router for about a year with good results. Currently can be found for about $80. Occasionally have to reboot but I'm never sure if it's the router, modem or the network ( Comcast ) Much better range than the standard router. I run an SB2 wireless with a Mac mini and OSX 10.4.8 with no dropout.

They frequently have it for $1.99 - 4.99.

I think it´s worth $5 just as a switch(4 ethernet ports), but it´s been working fine as a wireless router for me. Just sits there and blinks while it streams tunes to my SB 24/7. No dropouts. No reboots. Nothin´ but tunes, but I´m not doing anything fancy. The customer reviews show some complaints about the range, but I haven´t tested it in any extreme applications. Other than the PC, the SB is the only device on my network, and they´re both in the same room. I think it´s just the ticket for those who simply want to connect the SB without spending another $50 on the project.
