Yesterday I went into Electronics Exchange with one of the guys I work with to get him a replacement power supply for his computer speakers. As we wandered around the store I worked my way over to the stereo isle and low and behold look at what was sitting there...

I immediately grabbed my Leatherman and started taking the back off. I was
really hoping to find a pair of Tannoy's inside. In stead what I found was even
more interesting.

These things are Karlson cabinets stuffed with a pair of 15", 16 ohm, Pioneer PAX 30E coaxials. The cabinets as you can see are furniture grade made of Maple. The finish on them is still really good though they do need to be oiled and a little bit of stain in a spot or two.

Heres a picture of the curtain on the front of the speakers looking through the back compression slot.

Needless to say, I told Bruce immediately that I'd take 'em and I'd be back on Saturday with a trailer to pick them up. Today I came back with my Sonic T amp and a portable CD player just to make sure the drivers were OK. I plugged them in and believe it or not, these things sound pretty darned good. Now I can't tell much with the stock T amp as they were a little bit of a tough load for it but they sounded pretty darned clean (Willie, you were right). Bass was solid without being lumpy, mids were extremely nice and the soft dome tweeter Pioneer used back in the early 60's sounded pretty darned nice too. These may be a keeper

They'll probably need some fresh caps in the crossover and a decent pair of binding posts (since they have RCA's as speaker inputs). the cabinets are rock solid without any gouges or scratches.
Looks like Christmas came a little late this year

One problem, Laura is going to have a rag baby when I drag these home tomorrow. I may not be able to come out and play for a while after this one.
