What is "Low Leakage Current"?
« on: 18 Dec 2006, 12:12 am »
I have been looking at Tripplite isolation transformers to use with a power conditioner in my audio system. I noticed Tripplite offers general-purpose versions and hospital-grade versions. The hospital-grade versions (which cost more) use special hardware to achieve what they call "low leakage current" as needed by hospital equipment, etc.

Does anybody know what this "low leakage current" thing is about, and does it even matter to audio system performance? :?:

Low leakage current is how much current  "leaks" from hot to neutral or hot to earth ground if I remember correctly. Some medical applications require this, audio, to the best of knowledge does not. I use the non medical grade Tripplite Isobars myself.
