Monarchy DIP and Bel Canto Dac 2
« on: 16 Nov 2006, 01:43 am »
Does any one have any experience with the Monarchy dip up sampler and the Bel Canto Dac 2. I have a Denon Dcm 380 Cd player, Channel Island D-200 Amps, a Modwright SWL 9.o pre amp, And Salk HT3 speakers. I am just curious if the Monarchy DIP Upsampler would make a major difference in the sound when connected with the Bel Canto Dac 2 or is it a waste of money.
Thanks in advance.

Being as the Bel Canto Dac2 has little problem with jitter I'd try it without it. I have a Bel Canto Dac 1.1 and like this dac very much. I keep thinking about upgrading but it's so good I'm concerned I'll be disappointed or worse if I change.

According to Stereophile's measurements of jitter with optical the jitter was actually less than using coax at about 150 for the original Dac1. I believe the Bel Canto Dac 2 has even less jitter than the 1 did. In either case it's quite low.

Personally this dac in my system is excellent. I think you'd gain more by getting a significantly better dac than the DAC2 than using the Monarchy. If memory serves me correctly the Dac 2 was compared directly to the Wadia of the time with little to no difference so you have your work cut out for ya in bettering the Bel Canto Dac 2 by much at all.
