REL Q-series SUB + Dulcet?
« on: 18 Mar 2005, 11:59 am »
Im planning for a sub and I have read the threads here. The problem seems to be, the x-over affecting the r3a midrange. Anyone tried pairing sub's with Dulcet yet? Results? Crossing @ say... 45-50hz? How about REL Q-series? Anyone heard the 150E mk2 + dulcet?

I'd say go for it.

Even if someone chimes in with an opinion one way or the other for that specific setup you mentioned, it might actually sound completely different in your room (the way it interacts with your room might negatively or positively affect the overall sound).

I only have one suggestion: use a crossover before your amp so you take away the last octave or two of bass duties from the Dulcets and of course the amp too.  This will give you greater dynamics, cleaner mids/highs and just overall better sound when implemented properly.

I haven't, but I'll be very interested to hear how you make out.  I'm a huge fan of the Dulcets. Since the cross-overless design seems to contribute to their special something, I think proper integration of a sub will be pretty challenging. Please keep us posted...

You could use a passive line level crossover before the amp; I would suggest a 1st order crossover set at 80Hz that way the Dulcets won't be doing much for the last octave and will have a lighter load with the second octave of bass.

I don't know if you can get away with that using the REL subs.  I know they like to use speaker level inputs.

You might want to put the question directly to Divergent Technologies; Mr. Goka there has been very helpful to me with questions about optimizing their product lines.   e-mail contact via "divergent@divertech.com."

good luck.

I can't comment on the Dulcets with the REL Q sub but I am using a REL Strata 3 with the DeCapos. This combination is excellent and I have had no difficulty blending the sub with the DeCapos. I could be mistaken but I thought the "Q" subs were designed for HT applications. I believe they are a ported design and this makes it considerably more difficult to integrate the sub with the main speakers (the Strata is a sealed enclosure). If you are using the Dulcets in an all-music system, I strongly suggest you consider the Strata over the Q.
