Replacement battery for SB3
« on: 24 Aug 2006, 04:36 am »
Hi all,
Can some one tell me the battery spec for the RWA digital modded SB3 unit ?  I don't know what should I shop for, volt ?, amp ?  Where can I buy it ? My battery die out on me 2 days ago..
Many thanks.

Hi Oris98,

It is a 12V, 10Ah SLA battery.

This one will do the trick:

Hi Vinnie,

Will a SLA 12V 12AH battery works too ?  The local sales guy said, it will allow the battery to run longer than the 10AH.. Is this correct ?   Any Pros and Cons for this ?  I just want to make sure I buy some thing that works !

Thanks again.

Hi Oris98,

It will work fine, but it will not fit in the battery enclosure that I provided with the mods.

Best regards,

Hi Vinnie,

What is the best way to remove the battery from the box ?  It looks like glued tight on the bottom pannel.  Any tricks for doing this without damaging the aluminum surface of the pannel ?

Thanks.

First - Vinnie mentioned that the easiest way to get the battery out is to use a large flat screwdriver to pry the battery up.  Works easier apparently if you remove one of the side panels - the one with no wires.

I'll give that a try as soon as I get the replacement battery.

Speaking of which - is there any difference between the one listed above and this one?

Other than $10?

Ok so you pay $299 for something you'll eventually have to pry-open with a large flat screwdriver (no pun intended) in order to get it working again .. same thing with iPod - there's no reason to buy one while constructed in such a way ..

Btw as far as this forum is concerned, there is:

Um, no.

This is for a modded unit and the discussion is how to replace the battery added with that mod.  A stock Squeezebox doesn't have the battery.

The tip given is to gently pry the battery out of the case, not how to break the case open.

Vladimir,

You are probably unaware that I offer a battery replacement service for those who need their SB battery replaced, and as Miklorsmith pointed out, this is for a modded unit.  Feel free to contact me via email if you'd like RWA to do the replacement.

Also, I no longer offer modifications to the SB.  :nono:

You are probably also unaware that I also replace iPod batteries for modified iPods (this I do at no cost if you send me the replacement battery).

SMF 1.1 Release Candidate 3 is available!
SMF 1.0.9 and patch for 1.1 RC3 released

This is off-topic, but perhaps others will be interested if you post on a different forum here on Audiocircle.  Thanks.

Hi byteme,

Thank you for keeping this post on-topic.  :green:

The battery that I use is the UB12100-S.  The one from battery mart is also a 12V, 10Ah battery.  I never did an evaluation as to which lasts longer, but my guess is they are the same.

Best regards,

Vinnie

Vinnie R. yeah man, the community is lucky (or insert word) to have people like you to help out :) but this isn't exactly what I meant; it's no (real) stress to replace the batteries, I was kinda trying to say that I'd choose for example iRiver T10 2GB (yes of course cannot be compared with iPod 60 GB) or simliar product that has batteries that are removable / easily replaceable - over something that's so expensive, yet uses cheap components .. yet again, if I were to get one - probably first stop would be your shop ..
