Odyssey Cyclops(khartago) and magnepan
« on: 7 Nov 2006, 11:08 pm »
I am getting back in to the audio hobby, and was interested in knowing if the Odyssey Khartago could drive magnepan mg12. I have just been reading equipment reviews, and like the magenpan sound after listening to the 1.6 QR at a friends. I cannot currently afford them or the simaudio amp he had driving them.  That is where the Khartago comes in. I heard about the good trade-up policy and customer service at Odyssey. Are there any other recommendations?

I used the Odyssey Khartago to drive MG1.6QR witn no problem. They mate very well together. I later upgraded to the Khartago Mono Extreme SE version. Things got even better.

Thanks for that note. That is what I was hoping for with the Odyssey line, and easy upgrade path.

No issue driving them, whatsoever :icon_twisted:  They are driven at least as well as any similarly priced solid state amp can.  Tube amps will just sound different - that's just subjective.  From a purely objective view - it's hard to beat 150 watts, oodles of current, excellent, long term reliability with 20 year warranty, smaller-than-typical hi-end margins that Klaus makes on his gear, and elimination of dealer network. That's all pretty much a knockout 'punch' and guarantee that you won't find much better solid state amps to drive them.

They drove my modded MMG's until, I too, both Odyssey Khartago Extreme SE version  :)

Of course, there is Bryston - either the 3B-SST or 4B-SST.

Another option is ATI. Take a look at either the AT2002 http://www.ati-amp.com/at2000.html or the AT3002 http://www.ati-amp.com/at3000.html

A friend is using a NAD C370 integrated with his maggies.
