Was wondering if anyone has noticed a difference in the sound of the new Force XL in relation to the previous version. ????

Not to worry, they sound the same. Same amp and driver, cabinet has the same acoustical properties. The XL is strictly a visual upgrade :)

Thanks for the response, Mike.  I thought maybe they had a different quality since the new XL has a solid piece underneath now rather than just exposure to the floor.

I too was wondering if this has a sonic impact. I personally am really glad the solid piece is there, as I think it looks really nice. Some professional installers (local) had also told me of a benefit from putting a slab of wood or acrylic (or anything similar) underneath a down-firing subwoofer, especially if the sub is on a carpeted floor - saying this nicely enhance the overall subwoofer sonics. Mike, is there any truth to this?

I think there is little if any difference. I have heard subs improve if they're on a floot that flexes and you add some mass under them, like concrete blocks, etc.
