Biamped Timepieces - Wire choices
« on: 26 Oct 2006, 06:42 pm »
In an effort to squeeze a bit more out, of my wonderful Timepieces, I am thinking of going the biamp route, not for the volume, though as I rarely have the system abouve 89db or so.

I will use each of the 4 channels of my Bel Canto EVO 4 amp to run the tweets and woofs on each side.  Now the question is what do I use for wire.  I have a 20 foot pair of Sonoran I am selling only need 6-8 feet per side since rearranging.  So I think I will use CVH starquad 9 gauge copper for the woofs and some sort of silver lace for the tweets.  Anyone have ideas on what might work best for the top end?  I am thinking Homegrown IC 4 bulk which is silver lace wire with 4 conductors.  Run plus and minus out of that one bundle or do I need the heavier gauge that a single lace on the positive and negative inputs?

Has anyone tried this approach?  I have anote inot Biob for his thoughts, but I know he is busy and most of you guys have tried lots of configurations.

BTW It was great to meet many of you at the RMAF.  Thanks much to lonewolf for the demo cd.  We had a good laugh on last track of the disk.

cheers

You might want to try the Audience Au24. It is a very clean and extremely detailed cable.

I haven't tried the Au24 Karsten recommends, but I'm told it is an excellent cable.

I'm also considering bi-amping, and I will probably use Gregg Straley's Reality speaker cables.  I had an extended audition a while back, and I was surprised and impressed with their performance, regardless of price.  They are true giant-killers IMHO.

I played with quite a few different cables both when bi-wiring and single wiring the Continuums. Much of it comes to personal taste but I really liked the Sonoran wiring with most of the amps I used.
I also have some of the VH Audio CHeLA speaker cable (4 foot pairs) that I used for single wiring that sounded very good as well.
