B200 + 2 15" Woofers
« on: 20 Oct 2006, 10:11 pm »
Thought I would share my stab at OB with the B200. I have gone the route of a Jamo OB rip off (I mean, inspiration) using the B200 and 2 15" woofers per side. I glued together two 3/4" pieces of baltic birch ply and with my jigsaw cut them to roughly the same shape as the Jamos. No wings.

For the woofers, I am using 15" with these specs:
Sens. = 100db
qts = .82
xmas = .25"
fs = 36

I am using a series inductor between the B200 and the woofers to cross it over at around 175. Nothing else. 40w SET amp

The sound is pretty amazing, with some qualifications. All of the best aspects of the the B200 in OB come through: the clarity; the increased amount of musical information; the imaging. With the layer of bass, the (dynamics, sound stage, etc, you pick it) is simply stunning. Last night I could feel the circle that a wisk traced around a drum.

The set up still needs some tweeking. And, here is where my question comes in. The highs are sometimes overbearing; too bright; however you want to say it. I think I am experiencing the Freq. rise that has been heavily discussed here. The blending of the woofers with the b200 seems fine to me, but I don't know. I haven't been dabbling with this long enough to pick out exactly what is going on. So, I don't know if this is a function of the b200 needing to be equalized in some what (MOX + ind.) or I am experiencing a blending problem with the woofers and the B200.

Thanks for reading. I will try to post a pic.

I'm curious what 15 inchers you are using. The specs are impressive.

$40/pair including shipping is an incredible deal on those drivers.
Thanks for linking them in.

Yes, if the top end of the B200 is too hot for you, then you'll
prefer the simple correction circuit.  Typically, I prefer to start
rolling the augmenters off lower to retain more of a single driver
sound from the full ranger.

I've been using a single pair of Warrior 15's with the B200's for a several months now.   I passive crossed them at around 200 hz, but I think that too high.  I'm getting a little blurring of the image.  The warrior 15 blends well with the B200, and If you don't like the top end try toeing out instead of in.

I've also been playing with notch filter of 1.5 mH and 5 ohm, but I'm not sold.  I'm currently thinking of letting the B200's have thier own baffels and using a sub plate amp with the Warriors on a separate baffle.  I have a feeling that the notch filter will blend better at lower freq.

Those Bass-drivers are a steal. 1 mH + 8 ohm will give a more balanced effect than 1.5 mH + 5 ohm for the B200.

Wondering how you wired the 3 speakers up?
All parallel?

To be a little more specific of the filter effects. 1.5 mH + 5 ohms will take more in the bass end and less in the treble end than 1 mH + 8 ohms.
