soldering question
« on: 30 Sep 2006, 02:00 pm »
I have aspirations of changing out some SMT components of an apogee mini-me mic pre/adc.  My question is this.  I know that it is possible to replace smt components with leaded components, but I am looking for some pointers on what to do to make this work.  I have some junk sitting around to practice on, but I would like some tips on how to start, what to do, etc since I have never done this before.  Any and all advice is very much appreciated.

Thanks

First off make sure you have an iron that is regulated in temp or better yet a soldering station ( I have one and it is alot better than a stick iron). Next always use a tip that is the same size or smaller than the componet that you are removing. Last and most important, make sure that the iron you are using is ESD safe, this is a must and means you will not zap the part (static) or surrounding the componets. I hope this helps.
