volume control

Hi everyone how you doin
my volume control makes my amp alittle noiser than without it
do you know of any way i can fix this

do you know what kind of volume control you have? sounds like a noisy pot.

it is a carbon type when in middle position the noise is decreased, also the whole wiring/assembly
makes the amp noisier any ideas

sounds like a bad pot, needs to be replaced....from my vantage anyway...not a big deal to do.

thanks joshk, do you know any better way of wiring the control and what type of cable
would be best to minimise noise pickup shielded or regular wire

a noisey pot isn't about shielding or wiring, it is about degrading the contacts in the moving contact.  What amp are we discussing?  That might help, as we might be able to figure out the value of the pot and tell you which one to reorder to fix it.

thanks joshk,that explains the decreased noise in the middle position, sounds like a bad pot (cheap)
doesnt it?,the amp is a class-a 15watter of mine what value do you have in mind and what type
of qood quality pot should i use,shielded cable is better for noise problems isnt it, any suggestions
on how long pot wiring should be?

I wasn't asked, but i will chime in anyway.  Take a look at the stereo attenuators on the Gold Point web page.  They are reasonably priced as quality attenuators go.  They may be too big though. Others are DACT and Shallco - higher in quality and price. 

Alps used to make nice pots, but no longer!

Hi guys i changed the pot but there is still noise with it than without it
