I need 3 db more treble output from my Bugle...help!

I recently replaced a pair of Klipsch ChorusII horn loaded speaker for a pair of Paradigm Studio 100 v.2's. I really like them. They are accurate enough to illuminate any source shortcomings, however.

I would like to alter my Bugle to get a 3 db boost in treble output. I dont want to change the turnover points, I just need a bit more hi freq. output for my turntable to sound the some as my Jolida CD player (which sounds just to my liking...its tube output tames the brittle highs on my older cd's).

I use a Benz Ace mc cart (medium output - 0.8 mv). I just change the Bugles gain to 55 db (it was configured for 50 db before) so that the amp puts out the same loudness whether CD or AUX (turntable) is slected. If I understand correctly, the EQ in the Bugle is passive, and unaffected by the gain configuration. I have the Bugle set for 47K loading, and power it with Jims 15v power supply kit.

Are there some specific resistors I should change from the original values that would allow about 3 db more of the 2.2khz and higher freq come thru?

I have tried 2 other carts on this same table, and they all sound very similar. I'm guessing the Belden 1694 cable I'm using as an interconnnect, or the table/tonearm (Technic SL-1200MKII) is the culprit here, or maybe I'm just used to a brighter sound. I'm hoping the Bugle can be configured to serve as my 'tone control' to make the speakers sound the way I want when playing vinyl.

Thanks for advice on this.

i had a pair of Klipsch previously and went and now using the exact speakers you are now using. I gotta say settle down a minute and let the Pradigms have more of a chance. Those Klipsch can be bright. I do find the Paradigms to be thicker in the mids, richer or whatever, but the highs are there ... just not abnormally accentuated.

For instance, I was listening to a Mono Schostakovich symphony and the bell came in clear as a, well, and separated from the surrounding noises with ease. It was just not the Paradigms there but the Bugle as well. The Klipsch can be LOUD and strident ... the Paradigms are more relaxed but richer.

In short the Bugle and Paradigms are a match. you may want to change op amps for a different sound... check out some descriptions here : http://www.rock-grotto.co.uk/opamp.htm

Well, I supposed you can add an upward tile by shifting the 50kHz turn lower in frrequency.  Maybe put it down at 5k?  Use this calculator for resistor values:

I will try that. Using the calculator, I see only Rc and Rd need to be changed.

****  Is Rc = R8, R26, and Rd =  R13, R31 on the Bugle circuit board??

If so, I have a question. According to the calculators default setting of 2.122 Khz for the treble pole, Rc is listed at 7.182K, but the Bugle plans and parts list itself show Rc (R8 and R26) as 8.45K. I dont understand something here.....

Thanks for Clarification on which exact resistors I should experiment with..

8.45k

Everybody misses this - even the guy who copied the circuit and sold it as his own on diyaudio.com.  The answer is because the resistor is in parallel with the 48.5k loading of the next stage (on the other side of the 0.22uF capacitor).

R = (48.5k * Rx) / (48.5k - Rx);

jh :)
