Neither the A/V-O or the O-3 has any more oomph than the other by much. The O-3 seams to had a little stronger bottom end to it in my room. The O-3 has the lower distortion as it is sharing the sub 200Hz range with two drivers. It is also adjustable in that range. The A/V-O is not.

For those of us in the United States are there any adidtional charges for customs, etc. or the price delivered to the door the item price plus shipping?

Canada is Duty free to the USA and the only Tax that may apply is if you have a State sales tax.
Other than that the price you see it the price you pay.

We ship 99% of our goods from the USA as we are only miles from the boarder, and we do all the clearance paper work.This speeds things up for shipping time frames.
-If we ship from our door a set of AV1 cabinets to Danny 2-3 weeks delivery time.
-If we spend 30 minutes to cross the boarder and ship from Sumas WA 7 days to Danny for the same package.

This is why we ship as much as we can from the USA to our customers in the USA.

Will there also be a flat-kit available?  This could save some money on assembly and shipping.

Not from us.
Other people may do a flat pack but we will not.
Shipping a little cheaper but not much still have to package the flat pack cabinets to prevent damage just like you would assembled cabinets.

And believe me UPS and FED EX can just about destroy anything if you do not package cabinets very very well.
