What matters in a microphone cable?

I finally got around to selecting a measurement mic and pre-amp, but will need to pick up a balanced, XLR terminated microphone cable as well.  This system will be used to investigate room treatment options and, eventually, electronic crossover setup.  As such, it will only be used occasionally, which forces me toward the value end of the spectrum when it comes to price.  That said, I'm still curious as to what properties matter most in a microphone cable  (shielding, RLC specs, etc.).

Many thanks for any comments!

Generally, for mic cable, especially non-critical and low stress home use, almost anything would work, in short lengths (under 20 feet).
I would go straight to Blue Jeans and get their basic Belden. This is really good cable, well respected in the industry. The three most respected names for cable in the studio world are Mogami, Belden and Canare.
