Just an FYI to VMPS owners or anyone looking for a classic design for a good price.  There is a company (GASS or something) that rebuilds these for really cheap.  You can do a search.  I don't know this guy but the amp is on Ebay and closes in a couple hours.  Here is the link:

Ahhh...  one of the reasons I like AC so much... friendly members looking out for each other!  Thanks, Jackman!

I'm not really looking to pick up a Son of Ampzilla at the moment, but what I've read about them has left me intrigued enough that I do tend to pay attention to comments about them.  With that in mind...

Does anyone know what differences exist between the Son of Ampzilla product as produced by James Bongiorno's previous company, the Great American Sound Company, and his current company, Spread Spectrum Technologies, Inc.?  I know that even within SST, Inc.'s current incarnation of the Ampzilla products, the toroid has been updated a few times.

By the way, it appears that there is a company called "Gasworks" that specializes in rebuilding products of the original Great American Sound Company, including the Son of Ampzilla.  It isn't clear to me that they actually have any connection to James, however.  Does anyone know the history here?

Thanks!

James can be e-mailed through the AMPZILLA 2K website, if you want to ask him any specific questions about the comparison.

Hi Gasworks is out of business. Link goes to unrelated Dutch site. Gasworks did not have any connection with James B. He only authorizes some friends for repair and update. See the SAE forum on Yahoo.

The new Son of Ampzilla 2000 is a whole different beast. Fully balanced circuit. Expensive!
