Having a pair of both the FE206E and the Hempcone 8" full range driver (which is better in most important ways than the Fostex) I was wondering whether anyone had tried modifying their full range Hempcones along the lines of the FE206E mods, ie, adding a phase plug.

Or any other little tricks, for that matter (dammar, damping etc.)

Hi Luigi, I just received phase plugs from Dave/Planet10 for my 8" hemp widerange. I maybe shouldn't tell you that because i won't have time to play them for a few days at least! But I can tell you that I ordered the same ones he has made for the FE167E's as the hemps have 1" vc too. They do fit in there, but I need to clean out the rest of the dust cap fragments I didn't get yet so there will be no rubbing. The plugs can also be sanded down a little if needed.
Yes I'm anxious to hear the new sound. I've played the hemps ~ 60-80 hours I'm guessing and they smoothed out some but I would like to get rid of some upper mid problems. Hoping the plugs do it, along with more breakin.
I'm not a purist and may try a bsc at some point. I like the mids of the hemps alot, some sweetness there. But if I don't like the highs after plugs and breakin I will try a hemp midwoofer and tweeter (maybe a waveguide mounted tweeter as at Zaph: waveguide tmm).

Hi Nodiak

I will be keen to hear your impressions of the modified Hempcones.

I see the company is coming out with new DIY Reference full rangers soon. Updates will include technology from Adire Audio, but also from others from what I can gather.

Meanwhile, still messing around with Tubalizer in different positions in the audio chain. It's an interesting device.
