Need a good copy of JP Sousa's song
« on: 9 May 2006, 06:19 am »
I just received an email request from my wife for a good copy of The National Anthem.  This will be the official copy played at the US Embassy in Ulaanbaatar on the 4th of July.  Any suggestions?
She also wanted sheet music.  I am staying in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, anyone know of a store near here where such a thing could be found?
Thanks in advance,
Eric

Download an mp3 copy from the Official Army Band, "Pershing's Own".
Go to

http://www.usarmyband.com/Audio/army_band_mp3_selections.html

At the bottom of the page, Find "U.S. Army Ceremonial Band", then scroll down to "The Star Spangled Banner". No sense in buying a copy, since this is free, and good, too. As far as the sheet music, since I am in the Texas Panhandle, I can't be of help. Baltimore should have a bunch of music stores, just call them - won't be hard to find a printed copy.
Hope this helps.

You're welcome!

Since you specifically mentioned John Philip Sousa, he was the Director of the U.S. Marine Band from 1880-1892. So, why not go to the Marine Band's website?
http://www.marineband.usmc.mil/audio_resources/educational_recordings/index.htm

You might can get these recordings sent directly to the Embassy- shoot ,they might send you their entire discography, especially since it would be for diplomatic purposes. Official communication from the Embassy requesting these recordings would seem to be the way to go (like I know what I'm talking about  :) )

If you get that far, see if they will let you have the J.P. Sousa's "Semper Fidelis" CD.

You can't get any more "American" than this!

A little history on the Star Spangled Banner........ :D
For a vocal performance...choir "wise"....The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has a nice track (#14)
on this cd....... 8) [/list:u]And for a "hand in the air holding a lighter" performance....you could check out Jimi Hendrix's rendition from Woodstock.....that would shake things up.....
